Toyota sixth-generation RAV4 electrification

Overview

Toyota has introduced the sixth generation of its RAV4 model line, transitioning the series to exclusively electrified powertrains including hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) options.

The new iteration adopts a more modern design language, featuring ‘Hammerhead’ front-end styling and slimmer LED headlights. Technological upgrades focus on the interior cockpit, which will utilize the new ‘Arene’ software platform. This system enables faster performance, over-the-air updates, and direct integration of services such as Google Maps and Waze into the instrument cluster.

Regarding performance, the 2026 RAV4 Hybrid Limited features a fifth-generation hybrid system with all-wheel drive, producing up to 236 horsepower. The plug-in hybrid variant utilizes a 2.5-litre petrol engine paired with a 22.7 kWh lithium-ion battery, offering an electric-only range of approximately 144 km to 154 km depending on configuration.

Toyota is expanding the lineup across international markets. In Greece, the sixth-generation RAV4 is available exclusively as a Full Hybrid or Plug-in Hybrid, with prices starting at €39,900 for the Style trim. In Brazil, the RAV4 XSE Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) has been launched, priced at R$ 399,990, delivering 329 cv.

In Japan, an updated version is expected to launch this November with refinements to the 4WD system. The update will replace the current ‘Trail’ mode with specialized ‘Mud & Sand’ and ‘Rock & Dirt’ modes to provide better control on unpaved surfaces. Additionally, a limited-edition ‘Off-Pake Plus’ package, featuring unique textured finishes, was recently highlighted in the Japanese market.

In the United States, the transition to a hybrid-only lineup and production delays at the Kentucky plant during retooling have led to significant supply shortages. Customers are facing wait times of up to six months, a situation further complicated by supply chain issues stemming from geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
