Toyota production halted at nine plants by Typhoon Dolphin

Typhoon Dolphin has disrupted automotive manufacturing in Japan, causing Toyota to halt production across nine assembly plants. The storm resulted in the shutdown of 17 production lines, affecting the manufacturing of several models, including the Corolla, Camry, and various Lexus series.

This weather event follows a major 7.1 magnitude earthquake in late July that had already impacted the industry, preventing the production of approximately 20,000 vehicles, particularly on the island of Kyushu. While several manufacturers had begun resuming operations after the earthquake, the typhoon has caused renewed delays.

Honda is also facing production challenges, with two plants expected to remain closed until at least August 19 due to a shortage of shock absorbers. The shortage stems from damage to supplier Astemo's facilities caused by the previous earthquake. Additionally, Toyota's recovery has been hindered by damage at a facility owned by supplier Aisin, which produces door components and seat parts.
