Toyota RAV4 faces US sales dip as Honda CR‑V overtakes

Toyota unveiled the sixth‑generation RAV4, a re‑engineered version of its best‑selling SUV that adds a plug‑in hybrid variant and updated safety systems. The model launched in Australia and will be sold as a Suzuki in Europe, featuring the TNGA‑K platform, a 2.5‑litre hybrid powertrain and a suite of driver‑assist technologies.

In the United States, the new RAV4 has seen a sharp sales decline. Honda’s CR‑V sold 226,114 units in the first half of 2026, surpassing the RAV4’s 153,955 units and even topping Ford’s F‑150. The drop is linked to supply‑chain disruptions as Toyota shifts production to the new generation, cutting RAV4 output by about 36%. Honda’s hybrid CR‑V benefits from strong demand and aggressive leasing programs. Toyota is accelerating output of the refreshed RAV4 to regain market share, while Ford expects its F‑150 volumes to recover later in the year.
