Toyota RAV4 outperforms Hyundai Tucson in plug-in hybrid comparison

Edmunds conducted a head-to-head comparison between the 2026 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid and the 2026 Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid to determine which small SUV offers better efficiency and utility.

The Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid outperformed the Hyundai Tucson in both electric range and fuel economy. In testing, the RAV4 GR Sport achieved 58 miles of all-electric range, surpassing the Tucson’s EPA-estimated 32 miles. Additionally, the RAV4 maintained an estimated 40 mpg in combined driving, while the Tucson achieved approximately 35 mpg.

Regarding utility, the RAV4 offers slightly more cargo space with 33.6 cubic feet behind the rear seats compared to the Tucson’s 31.9 cubic feet. However, the Hyundai Tucson provides superior passenger comfort, specifically offering 41.3 inches of rear legroom, significantly more than the RAV4’s 37.8 inches.
