Toyota RAV4 to Reinstate Physical Buttons After Customer Feedback

Toyota has acknowledged that the latest generation of its RAV4 SUV may have taken the shift from physical controls to touchscreen interfaces too far. Chief engineer Yoshinori Futonagane said the company is closely monitoring driver reactions, particularly from Chinese customers who are expressing a preference for knobs and dedicated buttons.

While the new RAV4 retains some mechanical controls – volume, climate temperature, drive‑mode selectors and other high‑frequency functions – many features such as fan speed, airflow direction and seat‑heating settings have been moved to the central touchscreen. Futonagane added that Toyota is prepared to bring additional physical buttons back in future updates if needed, stating, "If necessary, we will do it."
