Toyota recalls nearly 50,000 Tacoma trucks over shock absorber defect

Toyota has issued a voluntary recall for 48,420 Tacoma trucks due to a potential defect in the shock absorber assemblies. The recall affects 43,827 2024-2025 Toyota Tacoma trucks and 4,453 2024 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid vehicles.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the affected vehicles feature front and rear shock absorbers with an external oil reservoir. Over time, untreated metal surfaces between the shock absorbers can corrode, potentially causing the oil reservoir to detach while the vehicle is in motion. This detachment increases the risk of a crash.

Toyota technicians will examine the shock absorber assemblies and replace them with new components at no cost to owners. Notifications to affected vehicle owners are scheduled to begin on October 5.
