Toyota Tacoma shock absorber recall

Overview

Toyota issued a voluntary safety recall for approximately 48,000 Tacoma trucks due to a defect in the shock absorber assemblies. The recall affects 2024–2025 models, including both standard and hybrid TRD Off-Road units.

The issue involves Bilstein dampers where an untreated metal surface near a welded flange is susceptible to corrosion, potentially worsened by salt spray or rock chipping. If the corrosion causes the weld to fail, the external oil reservoir could detach while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Toyota technicians will inspect the assemblies and replace defective components at no cost to owners. Notification processes were scheduled to begin in late September and early October 2026.
