Toyota refreshes GR Yaris with upgraded steering and handling
Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) unveiled a mid‑cycle refresh of the GR Yaris, incorporating feedback from rally drivers, racers and enthusiast owners. The update adds a new, smaller‑diameter steering wheel with an ergonomic grip, a repositioned handbrake for quicker operation, and heated steering wheel and seat functions for added comfort. Toyota also revised the electric power‑steering (EPS) software and key components to broaden detection range, ensuring stable performance under aggressive driving. New tyre specifications and revised front and rear shock‑absorber damping further improve stability and handling on both road and rally stages. Marketing directors Bansar Maduma and Hiroyuki Oide emphasized that the changes aim to make the hot‑hatch more agile for daily use while retaining its motorsport heritage. The refresh was announced in Jakarta on 25 May 2026.
