Toyota resumes engine production at Porto Feliz plant

Toyota do Brasil has begun the gradual resumption of operations at its engine factory in Porto Feliz, São Paulo. This marks the first phase of recovery following severe damage caused by a windstorm approximately one year ago.

In this initial stage, the facility has restarted the casting process. The plant aims to reach an initial capacity of approximately 400 engines per day, with about 150 employees expected to return to the site by the end of the year. While the factory is being rebuilt and modernized, machining and assembly processes will continue at a nearby industrial complex in Porto Feliz. This temporary arrangement ensures the continued production of flex engines for the Yaris Cross.

The full reconstruction and modernization of the Porto Feliz unit are projected for completion by 2028. Once fully operational, the plant will feature increased productivity and expanded capacity for producing flex hybrid engines for both the Brazilian market and export.

This reconstruction is part of Toyota’s broader R$ 11.5 billion investment cycle in Brazil through 2030, which focuses on local technology, exports, and competitiveness. During the recovery period, Toyota utilized its global supply chain—including units in Japan, Europe, and Asia—to maintain vehicle production in Sorocaba.
