Toyota engine plant reconstruction in Porto Feliz
Overview
Toyota do Brasil has initiated the gradual resumption of operations at its engine factory in Porto Feliz, São Paulo, following damage caused by a windstorm approximately one year ago. The recovery process involves the demolition of the original structure and a reconstruction and modernization effort scheduled for completion by 2028.
In the initial phase, the facility has restarted the casting process with a target capacity of approximately 400 engines per day. To maintain production of flex engines for the Yaris Cross during the rebuild, machining and assembly processes are being conducted at a nearby industrial complex.
Toyota expects approximately 150 employees to return to the site by the end of 2026. Once fully operational, the modernized plant is intended to expand the production of flex hybrid engines for both the Brazilian market and international exports. During the reconstruction period, Toyota utilized its global supply chain across Japan, Europe, and Asia to maintain vehicle production.
