Toyota to invest over $1.25 billion in hybrid vehicle plant in Zárate

Toyota Argentina has officially joined the Incentive Regime for Large Investments (RIGI) to develop a new production facility in Zárate, Buenos Aires province. The project, formalized through Resolution 1848/2026 by the Ministry of Economy, involves a total investment of approximately $1.252 billion.

The plan focuses on constructing a third plant dedicated to manufacturing non-plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (full HEV). The initial production is slated for a pickup truck, with the potential for a future SUV version. According to official documents, this technology currently has no local production precedent in Argentina.

Toyota intends to allocate roughly $669.5 million—about 53% of the total investment—to local suppliers for works and equipment, exceeding the 20% minimum required by current regulations. The investment schedule includes $19.5 million in the first year and $147.75 million in the second, with a deadline to complete the minimum committed investment by September 30, 2028.

While the government has formalized the project's inclusion in the RIGI program, the company must still complete its internal authorization procedures to definitively confirm the execution of the investment.
