Toyota unveils 13th‑gen Corolla with new 1.5 L hybrid powertrain
Toyota announced that the upcoming 13th generation Corolla will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. The new model retains the futuristic styling cues shown in recent concept cars and will be powered by a 1.5‑liter four‑cylinder engine paired with an upgraded electric hybrid system. Toyota says the hybrid unit will deliver higher performance while improving fuel efficiency enough to potentially outpace the brand’s Prius. In addition to the standard hybrid, a plug‑in hybrid and a fully electric version are being developed for the Corolla line.
A separate report reviewed the Corolla’s previous E110 generation (1997‑2002), noting that despite its reputation for durability, the model fell short of sales expectations because of conservative design and weaker performance compared with rivals such as the Golf, Astra and Civic. Over time the E110 gained a loyal used‑car following thanks to its long‑term reliability, but it never achieved the market impact anticipated for that chassis generation.
