Toyota unveils GR Sport Aqua hatch and 4‑seat GR Hijet MORIZO K‑Trail kei truck

Toyota announced two new sport‑focused models for the Japanese market in 2026. On 6 July 2026 the company introduced a GR Sport version of its compact hybrid Aqua hatch, featuring a revised TNGA‑B platform, bespoke front bumper, side spoiler, 17‑inch aluminium wheels, sport‑tuned suspension and a higher‑output bipolar Ni‑MH battery. The model retains the Aqua’s hybrid powertrain with a WLTC fuel‑economy rating of up to 34.3 km/L and adds Toyota Safety Sense and Advanced Park. Prices start at ¥2,497,000 for the base version and ¥3,238,400 for the GR Sport trim.

Earlier in the year, Toyota showcased the GR Hijet MORIZO K‑Trail, a heavily modified 4‑seat kei‑truck based on Daihatsu’s Hijet. Unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January and the Osaka Auto Messe in February 2026, the concept combines a Land Cruiser‑style front end, bug‑style matte‑metal‑silver body, roll‑cage, and bucket seats in the cargo bed, allowing four occupants. The vehicle is intended for off‑road or closed‑track use and is not road‑legal in its current form, though aftermarket kits are available to replicate its styling.
