Toyota launches 1.2 billion‑dong Land Cruiser FJ SUV in Vietnam

Toyota Vietnam unveiled the Land Cruiser FJ on 28 July, pricing the new compact off‑road SUV at 1.198 billion VND. Built in Thailand on the IMV platform, the model uses a 2.7 L 2TR‑FE gasoline engine producing 163 hp and 246 Nm, paired with a six‑speed automatic transmission and part‑time four‑wheel drive. It features a body‑on‑frame chassis, removable front and rear bumpers, 18‑inch alloy wheels, LED adaptive headlights, a 12.3‑inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, leather‑upholstered seats and dual‑zone climate control.

The launch has sparked debate among Vietnamese consumers and analysts. Critics note the Land Cruiser FJ shares many mechanical components with the Fortuner and question whether the higher price of about 1.2 billion VND is justified. Industry experts argue the vehicle distinguishes itself through a new chassis design, revised interior layout and upgraded equipment. Comparisons have also been made to the Suzuki Jimny, with the Land Cruiser FJ offering larger dimensions, higher ground clearance and greater power, positioning it as a more versatile family SUV while retaining strong off‑road capability.
