Toyota Land Cruiser FJ launch and 300 hybrid debut

Overview

Toyota’s compact Land Cruiser FJ debuted in the Philippines on 21 July 2026, offered in TX and VX trims. Built in Thailand on the IMV platform, the FJ features a 2.7 L 2TR-FE gasoline engine (166 hp, 245 Nm) paired with a six-speed automatic and part-time 4WD. The vehicle utilizes a ladder-frame chassis with a 2,580 mm wheelbase and 245 mm ground clearance, including features like Active Traction Control (A-TRC) and a functional, driver-focused interior.

The FJ reached Vietnam by late July, with an official launch on 28 July priced at VND 1.198 billion. Vietnamese analysts have debated the pricing, noting shared components with the Fortuner, though experts argue the new chassis and upgraded equipment justify the premium. Compared to the Suzuki Jimny, the FJ offers larger dimensions and greater power.

A “Legacy Experience” event in the Philippines (31 July–2 August) provided test-drives for the FJ and Hilux. Simultaneously, at the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show, Toyota-Astra Motor unveiled two hybrid variants of the Land Cruiser 300: the VX-R and GR Sport. These models utilize a 3.5 L V6 twin-turbo engine paired with an electric motor in a parallel-hybrid system, delivering a combined 457 hp and 790 Nm of torque through a 10-speed automatic transmission. The GR Sport trim specifically includes enhanced off-road equipment such as front and rear differential locks and adaptive suspension. The hybrid launch coincided with the model’s 75-year anniversary, highlighting Toyota’s expanding premium SUV portfolio.
