Toyota Land Cruiser 300 introduces first hybrid powertrain

Toyota has announced a significant update to its Land Cruiser 300 series in Japan, introducing the model's first hybrid powertrain. Scheduled for release on October 1, 2026, the update replaces the previous V6 gasoline-only engine with a parallel hybrid system combining a 3.5-liter V6 twin-turbo engine with an electric motor. This new system produces approximately 457 horsepower and 790 Nm of torque.

The hybrid powertrain will be available in the ZX and GR Sport trims. While the hybrid system increases the vehicle's weight by roughly 170 kg and reduces fuel tank capacity to 68 liters, it offers enhanced off-road control and on-road acceleration. The hybrid models also feature electric power steering and specialized exterior elements, such as black chrome aero bumpers for the ZX trim.

For those seeking purely internal combustion options, the 3.3-liter V6 diesel engine remains available, specifically in the redesigned GX grade, which has been optimized for off-road utility with standard front and rear electric differential locks.

Accompanying the vehicle update, Toyota's customization brand, Modellista, has launched a new suite of accessories. The Modellista kit includes front and rear spoilers, overfenders, and a roof spoiler designed to provide a more refined, urban aesthetic. The kit is compatible with both the new hybrid and diesel versions of the Land Cruiser 300.
