Trabzon Airport expansion begins with sea reclamation and drilling
Construction has commenced for the expansion of Trabzon Airport in Turkey, involving significant sea reclamation and drilling works. The project aims to build a new airport area north of the existing facility by utilizing approximately 97 million tons of fill material on the seabed.
Key technical specifications for the new infrastructure include a runway measuring 3,240 meters in length and 45 meters in width, alongside a parallel taxiway. The project also features a 110,000 square meter terminal building, a 1,370-meter long apron, and a 6,000-meter breakwater to protect the site.
The total investment for the project is estimated at approximately 48.2 billion Turkish Lira. A contract was signed on January 20, 2026, for 48,199,470,138 Turkish Lira. The construction is expected to be completed in three stages over a period of roughly seven years.
