Trabzon municipal council dispute as CHP group walks out over alleged insults

During a July session of the Trabzon Büyükşehir Belediye Meclisi, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Cüneyit Zorlu called on the council chairman, AKP deputy Faruk Kanca, to apologise for language he had used toward CHP council member Alper Öztürk. Zorlu cited the alleged insults – “Gebertirim seni”, “Kes lan sesini”, “It herif”, “Çıkarken görüşeceğiz” – as organized and threatening.

Kanca refused to apologise, stating he had not insulted anyone. In response, CHP deputies, together with the mayors of Ortahisar, Beşikdüzü and Yomra, left the meeting in protest. Video recordings of the exchange were referenced, and the incident was portrayed by CHP members as a planned harassment against their group.

The clash highlights ongoing tensions between CHP and AKP factions within the municipal council, with both parties accusing each other of bad conduct and political manipulation.
