Tractor fires ravage farms in Bavaria and Hesse, causing million‑euro damage
A major farm fire on 26 May 2026 in the Bavarian village of Egling destroyed most of a three‑building agricultural complex after a tractor ignited. The blaze attracted 219 responders from eleven fire brigades, the police and ambulance services. The residential house was saved thanks to a fire‑break wall, and no one was injured. Property loss is estimated in the millions of euros.
The previous day, 25 May 2026, a tractor caught fire near Brauerschwend in the Hesse municipality of Schwalmtal. About 40 firefighters and a police patrol quickly contained the blaze and prevented leaking diesel from spreading. The farmer escaped unharmed, and the damage was assessed at roughly €90,000. Both incidents highlight the risks posed by agricultural machinery fires and the coordinated response of local emergency services.
