Traditional cultural festivals scheduled in Roșia and Săcel

Several traditional cultural festivals are scheduled to take place in Romania on Sunday, August 16.

In Roșia, the 13th edition of the “Dorel Codoban” Viorii cu Goarnă Festival-Contest will be held. Organized by the Bihor County Cultural Center, the event focuses on the “vioră cu goarnă,” an instrument inscribed in Romania’s National Intangible Cultural Heritage. The competition features young musicians aged 12 to 24, with a grand prize of 2,000 lei. The program includes performances by various folklore ensembles and soloists.

In Săcel, the 5th edition of the “Ceapa Roșie de Bărăști” Traditions and Customs Festival will take place at Nopcsa Castle. This event celebrates the local traditions and gastronomy of Hațeg Land, specifically highlighting the Bărăști red onion. Activities include a photography exhibition, traditional food tastings, a local product market, and unique competitions such as onion-braiding and onion-cutting contests. The festival will conclude with a folklore show featuring several regional artists.
