Traditional pottery exhibitions open in Moldova and Romania
Traditional pottery and ceramic arts are being highlighted through new exhibitions in Moldova and Romania.
In Chisinau, the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History has launched the fourth edition of the National Exhibition of Folk Masters, titled ‘Living Heritage: Potters and Ceramists at the Altar of Tradition’. The event features 22 artists from across Moldova, showcasing diverse techniques ranging from traditional clay bells to modern crystal-infused ceramics. Museum Director Petru Vicol noted that despite themes of ‘endangered heritage’, a new generation is actively preserving the craft.
In Brașov, Romania, the Ethnographic Museum of Brașov hosted an exhibition focused on pottery centers in southern and central Transylvania from the 17th to the 19th centuries. The display explores how various ethnic groups influenced ceramic styles, including specific traditions from BârsaȚara, Saschiz, and Corund. The exhibition also bridges history and modernity by featuring contemporary artisans who apply traditional techniques to modern decorative arts and design.
