Torreón school attack kills subdirector and injures three

An attack at Secondary School No. 13 in the Ejido La Unión district of Torreón, Coahuila, resulted in the death of the school's subdirector, Nery Edith Narváez González, aged 56. The incident, which occurred on the morning of October 1, 2026, also left at least three people injured, including two students, one of whom is reported to be in serious condition.

Coahuila State Attorney General Federico Fernández Montañez confirmed that two 18-year-old brothers, who are former students of the institution, were detained in connection with the attack. Preliminary investigations suggest the motive may be related to personal resentment toward the school.

While initial reports suggested a shooting, authorities have ruled out the use of firearms. Instead, investigators believe the attackers used machetes and improvised explosive devices, such as firecrackers or Molotov cocktails, to carry out the assault.
