Vietnam authorities warn of phishing scams via SMS

Authorities in Vietnam have issued urgent warnings regarding two sophisticated phishing scams targeting citizens through fraudulent text messages.

Vietnam Post has alerted the public to scammers impersonating the postal service. These criminals send messages claiming a package cannot be delivered due to an incomplete address, prompting recipients to click a malicious link. These links can install malware to steal personal data or infiltrate banking applications to drain accounts.

Simultaneously, the Traffic Police Department warned of a scam involving fake “traffic fine” notifications. Scammers use international phone numbers to impersonate the Ministry of Public Security, claiming a vehicle violated traffic signals and demanding payment within 48 hours to avoid increased penalties. These messages direct victims to unofficial websites to steal information or money.

Officials advise citizens to avoid clicking suspicious links, never provide OTPs or banking details to unknown callers, and only use official government or postal channels to verify information or process payments.
