Urban mobility updates: Traffic restrictions and roadworks in Latin American cities

Various cities across Latin America are implementing new traffic management measures and infrastructure works.

In Quito, Ecuador, authorities have resumed counterflow traffic on Simón Bolívar Avenue between Ruta Viva and Guápulo from Monday to Friday (06:30–08:30) to reduce congestion. Additionally, the city's 'pico y placa' restrictions remain in effect, prohibiting certain license plates during peak hours.

In Colombia, several cities report mobility updates. Medellín continues its 'pico y placa' rotation for private vehicles and motorcycles. In Bucaramanga, restrictions are active to reduce congestion and emissions. In Bogotá, the Metro construction has caused a total closure of Diagonal 40A with Avenida Caracas during nighttime hours, and the deadline for the second installment of the 2026 vehicle tax is September 4. Meanwhile, in Armenia, officials clarified that additional 'pico y placa' measures have not yet been implemented following discussions with local sectors.

In Paraguay, roadworks for the Las Residentas Corridor in Luque will cause closures and detours on the Silvio Pettirossi Highway and Avenida Elizardo Aquino throughout the upcoming weekend.
