Brazil prepares for Nossa Senhora Aparecida holiday service changes
Brazil is preparing for the Nossa Senhora Aparecida national holiday on October 12, which will impact various public and private services across the country.
Banking services will see physical branches closed, though Febraban notes that digital channels, including Pix, internet banking, and ATMs, will remain operational 24 hours a day. Transactions requiring bank compensation, such as TEDs and checks, will only be processed on the next business day. Utility bills due on the holiday can be paid on the following business day without penalties.
Transportation and safety measures are also in effect. In Paraná, the Federal Highway Police (PRF) is conducting 'Operação Nossa Senhora Aparecida 2026' to increase surveillance and restrict heavy cargo vehicles on single-lane highways during specific windows. Similarly, the Minas Gerais Road Department (DER-MG) will restrict large vehicles to improve traffic flow. In Sergipe, the government is expanding the intermunicipal bus fleet to accommodate travelers.
Local services are also adjusting; for instance, in Recife, bus lines are being transferred to the Cosme e Damião terminal due to construction, and in various municipalities, health units and municipal offices are implementing holiday shifts or restricted hours.
