Vietnam traffic police increase enforcement and penalties
Traffic police across various provinces in Vietnam are intensifying enforcement actions to improve road safety. In Gia Lai, authorities recorded 21,724 violations in the first ten months of 2026, an 87% increase compared to the previous year, resulting in fines totaling over 17.6 billion VND.
In Hanoi, police are focusing on illegal parking near school gates to reduce congestion, utilizing AI cameras and direct patrols. Meanwhile, in Dong Nai, two drivers were fined 19 million VND each for crossing railway tracks while red lights were active.
Other notable enforcement actions include the penalization of a container driver in Dong Thap for carrying over 80 tons of steel, exceeding weight limits by 150%, and the processing of two bus drivers for using mobile phones while driving. Authorities are also utilizing digital systems to issue 'cold fines' (fines via camera footage) in provinces like Bac Ninh and Thanh Hoa, urging vehicle owners to comply with regulations.
