Vietnam road safety and driver training initiatives
Overview
Vietnam’s Traffic Police Department has initiated a nationwide campaign to improve road safety through specialized training and updated regulations. Following a period in early 2026 where motorcycle-related accidents accounted for over 90% of total road incidents, a training program was launched to run from August 10 through December 31, 2026. This campaign targets high-risk groups, including students aged 16 to 18 and individuals aged 30 to 55, focusing on accident prevention, blind spot awareness, and navigating difficult terrain.
In addition to the training campaign, new regulatory measures have been announced to enhance driving standards. Under Circular 108/2026/TT-BCA, car driving license examinations will be updated starting March 1, 2027, to include practical tests for high-speed lane usage and overtaking maneuvers. These changes aim to optimize traffic flow and improve overall driving habits across the country.
