Traian Băsescu criticizes anti-corruption methods and warns of energy crisis

Former Romanian President Traian Băsescu has expressed regret regarding the manner in which anti-corruption efforts were conducted during the tenure of Laura Codruța Kovesi at the DNA. He criticized the public spectacle surrounding investigations, noting that the exposure of suspects through media leaks and handcuffs before judicial rulings contributed to the discredit of the anti-corruption movement.

Băsescu also issued warnings regarding the economic outlook, specifically concerning energy security. He suggested that current oil prices in Romania are favorable compared to future projections, predicting that international prices could exceed $120 per barrel if supply issues from the Gulf persist. He noted that Europe faces significant challenges due to a lack of oil from the Gulf and high gas prices from the United States. To mitigate these issues, he suggested Romania look toward Kazakhstan for oil supplies, provided regional conflicts do not disrupt terminals. Additionally, he called for a reduction in public spending, specifically targeting parliamentary expenditures and various bonuses.
