Transatlantic flights diverted following emergencies

Two transatlantic flights bound for New York were forced to return to their departure airports following emergencies.

A Delta Air Lines Boeing 767-300ER, traveling from Dublin to John F. Kennedy International Airport, issued a ‘squawk 7700’ emergency code approximately 90 minutes into its flight. The aircraft made a U-turn over the Atlantic and landed safely in Dublin. Delta Air Lines confirmed the diversion was due to a passenger medical situation.

Separately, a Virgin Atlantic Airbus A330-300 departing Manchester for New York declared an emergency after encountering an unspecified technical issue at 10,000 feet. The flight crew entered a holding pattern northwest of Manchester to manage fuel and conduct safety checks before landing back at Manchester Airport. Emergency services met the aircraft upon arrival.
