Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Adopted by Treatment Centers in Argentina and Spain

In Argentina, the Cener de General Galarza health centre has installed a transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) system, a non‑invasive technique that uses high‑intensity magnetic fields to stimulate specific cortical areas. The device is intended to complement rehabilitation programs for conditions such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, treatment‑resistant depression and other neurological or psychiatric disorders.

In Spain, the Montevil Centre for Integrated Treatment (CTI) in Gijón has opened a dedicated TMS room as part of a broader program that already includes intranasal esketamine for severe depression. Psychiatrist Victoria Caramés and mental‑health director Juan José Fernández Miranda report that the TMS treatment reduces depressive symptoms and suicidal thoughts within hours and is integrated with psychotherapy, occupational therapy and physical activity.
