Transfăgărășan mountain road reopens for traffic in Romania
On 12 June 2026, the Compania Naţională de Administrare a Infrastructurii Rutiere (CNAIR) announced the reopening of DN 7C – the Transfăgărășan – for vehicular traffic between Bâlea Cascadă in Sibiu County and Piscul Negru in Argeș County. The road will operate daily between 07:00 and 21:00, with temporary closures possible if adverse weather arises; the opening had been postponed earlier because the area was under an orange storm warning.
CNAIR urged drivers to travel cautiously, adapting speed to rapidly changing mountain weather that can reduce visibility. Authorities also reminded motorists that feeding bears near the road is prohibited and punishable by fines of 10 000‑30 000 lei, as habituated bears may become aggressive.
