Transjakarta targets June 2027 for Kepulauan Seribu sea transport management
PT Transjakarta aims to begin managing sea transportation services in the Thousand Islands (Kepulauan Seribu) by June 2027. The transition process is expected to take approximately one year and involves strategic studies covering regulation, operational models, human resources, and financial projections.
To improve service quality, Transjakarta plans to optimize existing assets from the Jakarta Transportation Agency, including ships, docks, and port facilities. The company is also looking into upgrading ticketing systems and technology. Long-term development may include a ‘hub and spoke’ model, utilizing large capacity vessels for main routes and smaller feeder boats for inter-island connectivity. The service is intended to support passenger mobility, logistics, and tourism.
During discussions with the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), members expressed support for the transition to ensure safer and more integrated transport. However, officials suggested that Transjakarta should manage the service directly rather than forming a new subsidiary to avoid unnecessary bureaucracy and additional costs.
