Transjakarta to manage Thousand Islands transport by 2027

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has announced plans to transfer the management of transportation services between mainland Jakarta and the Thousand Islands (Kepulauan Seribu) to PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) starting in 2027.

Currently, these services are managed by the Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub), a system the Governor described as inefficient. By shifting management to Transjakarta, the provincial government aims to improve service quality, ensure punctuality, and provide more equitable access for island residents. The transition will require updates to regional regulations (Perda and Pergub) and the establishment of new fare structures.

To support this intermodal connectivity, KAI Group noted that the Commuter Line can play a strategic role by transporting passengers to coastal stations like Angke and Ancol, which serve as gateways to the islands. Public officials have emphasized that Transjakarta should act as an integrator for sea transport, potentially through a “JakLingko Laut” system, to ensure services are affordable, safe, and integrated with mainland transit.
