TransMilenio announces 48 billion peso investment to curb fare evasion
TransMilenio S.A. and the Agencia Regional de Movilidad (ARM) have announced an inter-administrative agreement worth 48,437 million pesos to combat fare evasion in the mass transit system.
The investment targets seven key stations along the high-demand corridor connecting Soacha and Bogotá. The stations to be upgraded include San Mateo, Terreros, La Despensa, and León XIII in Soacha, as well as Bosa, Perdomo, and Madelena in Bogotá. This corridor recorded approximately 37.4 million validations over the last year, averaging 102,000 daily entries.
To prevent irregular entry, the project will implement advanced technological and structural measures, including the installation of 140 high-resistance automatic doors with intelligent locking systems. Additionally, the plan includes floor-to-ceiling turnstiles and access control barriers, with an initial pilot program set for the San Mateo station. The project also aims to improve physical circulation areas, signage, and access zones to ensure safer operations for paying passengers.
