Transport disruptions affect Netherlands, Belgium, and France
Travelers in Western Europe are facing significant transport disruptions due to a combination of infrastructure upgrades and labor strikes.
In the Netherlands, ProRail is conducting infrastructure modernization along the Arnhem-Utrecht corridor. Between October 20 and October 31, train services will be suspended in phases. From October 20–23, services between Driebergen-Zeist and Arnhem Centraal/Rhenen are halted, while from October 24–31, the segment between Arnhem Centraal and Ede-Wageningen will be affected. Dutch Railways (NS) is deploying replacement buses, though passengers are advised to expect delays and capacity constraints.
Separately, staggered strikes are impacting the region. In the Netherlands, regional public transport workers organized a 24-hour strike on October 14 following the collapse of collective agreement negotiations. Belgium experienced various bus, rail, and public-sector strikes between October 8 and October 12. Additionally, Lyon, France, is facing anticipated bus disruptions on October 15.
