Transport for London unveils updated environmental resilience plan

Transport for London (TfL) has released an updated Corporate Environment Plan featuring more than 70 actions designed to reduce carbon emissions and improve network resilience against extreme weather. The plan builds upon the previous 2021 version and aligns with the Mayor of London’s goals to promote walking, cycling, and public transport.

Key environmental initiatives include the expansion of zero-emission bus fleets, which have grown from 30 vehicles in 2016 to over 3,000, making it the largest such fleet in Western Europe. TfL also aims to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure through partnerships with operators like Zest, TotalEnergies, and Fastned.

To combat flood risks and manage climate change, TfL committed to delivering at least 10,000m² of Sustainable Drainage Systems (Suds) annually through 2035. Additional measures focus on biodiversity, such as maintaining 520,000m² of wildflower verges and improving waterways, alongside infrastructure upgrades like converting London Underground lighting to LED.
