Transport for London environmental resilience planning

Overview

Transport for London (TfL) has released an updated Corporate Environment Plan containing over 70 actions to reduce carbon emissions and enhance network resilience against extreme weather.

Building on a 2021 version, the plan supports the Mayor of London’s objectives for walking, cycling, and public transport. Notable initiatives include the expansion of zero-emission bus fleets, which have grown from 30 vehicles in 2016 to over 3,000, and the expansion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure through various operator partnerships.

To address climate change and flood risks, TfL has committed to delivering at least 10,000m² of Sustainable Drainage Systems (Suds) annually through 2035. Other measures include biodiversity efforts, such as maintaining 520,000m² of wildflower verges, and infrastructure upgrades like converting London Underground lighting to LED.
