Transport initiatives expand in Senegal and Cameroon

In Senegal, the General Delegation for Rapid Entrepreneurship of Women and Youth (DER/FJ) has delivered 11 new taxis to drivers operating at Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD) in Diass. This addition brings the total number of taxis financed by the DER/FJ for the airport platform to 47, with a total investment of 337.65 million CFA francs. Abdoulaye Niang, the General Delegate of DER/FJ, stated the initiative aims to improve airport logistics and maintain Senegal’s reputation as a destination by providing efficient transport.

In Cameroon, the Yaoundé Urban Community (CUY) has launched a digital registration campaign to census and register more than 30,000 taxis across the seven districts of Mfoundi. Mayor Luc Messi Atangana introduced a digital platform to facilitate this process. As of the mid-term report, over 17,000 taxis have been registered, including 15,524 owners and 15,999 drivers. The registration requires various documents, including national IDs, vehicle licenses, and professional permits, with the operation scheduled to conclude by October 5, 2026.
