Cameroon taxi service modernization and registration

In Cameroon, efforts to modernize and regulate taxi services have progressed through two distinct initiatives. The initiative includes a driver selection and training process to professionalize the workforce, offering paths for drivers to work toward vehicle ownership.

By September 2026, the Yaoundé Urban Community (CUY) expanded its focus to broader urban management by launching a digital registration campaign to census over 30,000 taxis across the seven districts of Mfoundi. This digital platform aims to register owners and drivers using national IDs and professional permits, with over 17,000 taxis recorded by the mid-term report.
