Transportation updates connect Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo terminals
Major updates are occurring in the transportation infrastructure connecting Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Viação Penha has launched a new interstate bus line operating between the Terminal BRT Metropolitano in Irajá, Rio de Janeiro, and the Tietê Bus Terminal in São Paulo. The service runs from Sunday to Friday at 10:00 PM, providing a direct connection for residents of Rio's North Zone and the Baixada Fluminense, bypassing the need to travel to the Novo Rio terminal.
Simultaneously, a large-scale modernization project is underway for São Paulo's major bus terminals. Socicam, the concessionaire responsible for the terminals, is planning an investment of approximately R$ 498.8 million to renovate the Tietê and Jabaquara terminals. The project, approved by the Ministry of Cities, aims to transform these locations into integrated mobility hubs through structural improvements, better metro integration, and reorganized passenger and vehicle circulation. To fund these efforts, Socicam has already issued R$ 317.5 million in debentures.
