Brazil transportation infrastructure developments

Overview

Infrastructure developments are expanding across the Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo regions to improve transportation connectivity and urban mobility.

In the connection between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Viação Penha has introduced a new interstate bus line linking the Terminal BRT Metropolitano in Irajá to the Tietê Bus Terminal in São Paulo. Additionally, the concessionaire Socicam is initiating a R$ 498.8 million modernization project for the Tietê and Jabaquara terminals in São Paulo to create integrated mobility hubs.

In Rio de Janeiro, construction has officially launched for the Campo Grande Intermodal Terminal in the West Zone. This R$ 71.3 million project will span 22,200 square meters and is expected to be completed within two years. The facility is designed to integrate 33 lines—comprising 21 municipal and 12 intercity lines—with the BRT system, serving regions such as Itaguaí, Seropédica, and Duque de Caxias.

To support local mobility and safety, the municipal government has also announced R$ 34 million in infrastructure works managed by Fundação Rio-Águas to combat flooding in central Campo Grande. These efforts include reinforcing drainage networks across 16 streets, alongside paving and sidewalk improvements. This follows previous R$ 21.9 million allocations for drainage and paving in the Lagoa region.
