Trapani Port to host national summit on infrastructure and Mediterranean hub plans
Gaspare Panfalone, president of Riccardo Sanges & C., urged the organisation of a large national event in the autumn to discuss the future development of the port of Trapani after his appearance on Rai 1’s programme Linea Blu – Porti d’Italia.
The proposed summit would bring together the Italian government, the Sicilian regional administration, the Western Sicily Port Authority, private firms, logistics operators and universities to craft a shared strategy for turning Trapani into a leading Mediterranean logistics and cruise hub.
Panfalone highlighted the need to complete pending infrastructure works – new berths, deepening of basins and increased draught – to accommodate next‑generation commercial and cruise vessels, container traffic and offshore wind‑energy supply chains.
Recent data from the Port Infographics 2025 report show the port’s cargo handling grew 32.7 % and ro‑ro traffic 27.7 %, confirming its dynamism, while new cruise operators are expected in 2026, providing further economic and employment opportunities for Sicily and Italy.
