Trasmed’s Ciudad de Granada to host solar eclipse viewing cruise in the Mediterranean
Spanish cruise line Trasmed, part of Grupo Grimaldi, has signed a collaboration agreement with the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Valencia to let passengers observe the total solar eclipse on 12 August 2026 from the deck of the ship Ciudad de Granada. The vessel will sail between Valencia and Ibiza, with its timetable adjusted to provide the best sea‑based viewing conditions.
During the voyage, university specialists will run workshops, family activities and scientific talks. Jana Peiró, director of Passengers and Marketing at Trasmed, said the cruise will “convert our ship into an authentic observatory at sea”. Pablo Cerdá, head of the university department, added that “for just a minute we will feel the same awe as people have felt for millennia, seeing the Sun’s corona”.
