TRATON partners with Red Hat for Linux-based truck software

TRATON has announced a partnership with Red Hat to develop a common Linux-based software foundation for its future heavy-duty trucks. This initiative aims to unify the technical architecture of its brands, including Scania, MAN, International, and Volkswagen Truck & Bus, under a single platform known as TRATON ONE OS.

The new architecture moves away from fragmented, individual control units toward a centralized system using high-performance computers and container architecture. This approach allows individual vehicle functions to be decoupled from hardware, enabling easier updates and the integration of new services via wireless updates. Red Hat will provide the Linux and container foundation, while TRATON remains responsible for the overall architecture, security, and regulatory compliance.

The collaboration is non-exclusive and intended to create an open ecosystem where third-party technology partners can integrate new functions through standardized interfaces. Serial production of vehicles utilizing this new software architecture is planned to begin in 2028.
