Travel Agencies Face Rising Digital Fraud Threats in Spain and Argentina

A report by Beroni together with ObservaTUR in Spain found that one in three travel agencies experienced at least one digital fraud attempt in the past year. While 65% of surveyed agencies reported no incidents, 23% detected attacks early, 7% suffered minor issues and only 2% reported economic or reputational damage.

The study notes that cyber‑threats are not specific to tourism; Marcelo Cassino, director of ICT at Argentina’s Ministry of Economy, says Argentine firms face similar challenges as digitalisation exposes organisations of all sizes to sophisticated attacks. Many SMEs still postpone cybersecurity spending, viewing it as a low priority, despite experts warning that the cost of an attack can far exceed preventative investment.
