Travel trends are shifting toward relaxation and localized sustainability. According to a KAYAK 'What the Future' report, 70 percent of Gen Z and Millennial travelers prioritize relaxation and mental resets for their 2026 trips. Nearly half of these travelers believe a slower pace helps clear the mind. Recommended destinations for slow travel include the Lofoten islands in Norway, the Albanian Riviera, the Azores in Portugal, the San Juan Islands in the US, and Kangaroo Island in Australia.
Simultaneously, a YouGov study of over 20,000 people in Germany indicates that travelers are moving away from total travel avoidance in favor of sustainable actions at their destinations. While only 32 percent of respondents avoid air travel to reduce CO2 emissions, 54 percent prioritize buying local products and 59 percent seek out locally owned businesses to support regional economies. Younger generations and women show a higher orientation toward these sustainability trends.
