Travelers face rising cybersecurity and privacy risks
Travelers face increasing digital and physical privacy risks during holidays. Cybersecurity researchers at Kaspersky reported 262,663 detections of malicious activity targeting travel brands between Q2 2025 and Q1 2026. Phishing attacks and fake applications mimicking major brands were prevalent, with attacks impersonating Emirates accounting for 61% of travel-related detections, followed by Uber at 37%.
In addition to digital threats, travelers are advised to remain vigilant regarding physical privacy in accommodations. Methods to detect hidden cameras without specialized equipment include conducting visual inspections of electronic devices like smoke detectors, clocks, and USB chargers, using a flashlight to spot lens reflections in dark rooms, and scanning for infrared light using a smartphone camera.
