Tree falls on taxi in Rome, causing road closures and traffic delays

On 22 June 2026, strong gusts of up to 70 km/h swept through Rome. A large plane tree collapsed on Via Ostiense near the Gazometro, striking a taxi that was carrying the driver, a woman and her one‑year‑old child. No one was injured, but the impact destroyed the taxi and four parked cars.

The fallen tree forced the closure of the road segment on Via Ostiense and prompted traffic diversions to nearby streets, including Via del Gazometro, Via del Porto Fluviale and Via Tiberina. Authorities reported ongoing congestion and delays as crews worked to clear the debris and restore normal flow.
