Tren Maya expropriates additional land in Quintana Roo

The Mexican government formalized two new expropriations for the Tren Maya railway in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco, Quintana Roo.

The first decree, published in the Diario Oficial de la Federación, expropriated 33 hectares, 42 areas and 58 centiáreas of temporary communal land from the ejido “Laguna Om”. The state‑owned Tren Maya S.A. de C.V. must compensate the ejidatarios with roughly 6.55 million pesos.

A second decree later that month targeted more than 102 hectares of temporary land in the ejido Juan Sarabia, including 67 hectares of common use and about 34 hectares of parcel‑based holdings. The indemnization for this parcel is set at over 160 million pesos, based on a valuation of 157 pesos per square metre. Both actions are intended to secure the railway corridor between Tulum and Chetumal and to facilitate cargo and passenger transport across the southeastern peninsula.
