Tren Maya resumes Cancún-Playa del Carmen service
The Tren Maya has resumed service on the route between Cancún and Playa del Carmen. As of August 15, the service includes four daily trips, providing two journeys in each direction to improve connectivity for tourists and local workers.
To complement the rail service, a new intermodal transport system called ‘Tren Maya Conecta’ has been launched. This system utilizes buses to link train stations with strategic urban points, hotel zones, and key locations such as the Cancún International Airport and various shopping plazas in both Cancún and Playa del Carmen.
This reactivation follows previous legal scrutiny regarding environmental oversight in Section 5 of the railway. While some headlines suggested a total suspension of works due to court orders, the legal resolutions actually directed federal environmental agencies to strengthen inspection and conservation measures rather than halting the railway operations themselves.
